What is an energy audit or energy assessment?

An energy audit and energy assessment are both the same. A home energy assessment is a whole-house approach to examining energy efficiency to identify where you can have the biggest impact on improving your energy efficiency. The assessment looks at all the elements in your house and how they work together, including making sure your home is safe and comfortable. The energy assessment results in a report showing where your home is wasting energy and lists a set of customized recommendations for home energy improvements. The assessment takes about 2-3 hours maximum. Energy assessments are completed by contractors certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These contractors have undergone training in diagnostic equipment to provide you with a comprehensive analysis of your home's health, safety, energy use and efficiency.
